Reading - Students are wrapping up Unit 3, focusing on the reading comprehension skill of Questioning. Students practiced this skill by reading about Big Cats with their classes and stoping to ask questions while they independently read. Students are expected to keep practicing this skill when they read at home.
Writing - Both 4th and 5th Grade started their Personal Narrative Unit this week! They heard examples of personal narratives as created a Personal Narrative Ideas Journal where they reflected on memories and recorded possible topics they can write about. At home, students can continue to add to this list of ideas or start writing about a Personal Narrative topic of their choice in their Personal Narrative Writing Journal on Google Classroom.
4th Grade Math - We started Unit 2 this week, focusing on organizing and graphing numerical data using line plots. Students have also been reviewing content from Unit 1 (prime numbers, factors, multiplication strategies) in preparation for Unit 1 retakes. At home, students can work on pages from their math packet or choose resources on the Math Website (click "Math" tab)
5th Grade Math - After finishing Unit 3 (addition and subtraction review), we went back to Unit 1 and are halfway through after this week. Unit 1 focuses on multiplication and division strategies, finding all the factors of a number, and order of operations. Science - Our Weather and Climate Unit discussed factors that affect weather this week (elevation, temperature, air pressure, bodies of water, etc.) and different weather tools meteorologists use. They will begin their natural disaster Preparedness Plans starting next week! Our Electricity Unit focused on the use of solar panels, connecting batteries to a small toy racecar motor using what they know about circuits, and reviewed energy and energy transformations.
Social Studies - Half of our community explored a "traveling museum" of the Seminole Tribe and the other half of our community learned about the culture of the Central Plains Sioux Tribe. Students are documenting their discoveries of the common legends, housing structures, farming/hunting, etc.
